Grandma's Quilt

Grandma went home at 3:45 this morning. I was awake a lot during the night thinking about her and my mother. Mom said that she could not have wished for a more peaceful passing, could not have even planned one. She was right by her side and couldn't even tell when she took her last breath.

Coleman knows me so well that the first two things out of his mouth when he woke were, "What bad happened? and How is Grandma?" He was upset when I told him but he could see how much I was happy for Grandma and I told him that his Grammy said that this was a time to celebrate. He's talking about it a bit this morning, but I made sure that Cherryl told Grandma yesterday how Coleman has the last quilt Grandma sewed with him everywhere he goes, hospitals, ER doc offices, couch and in bed. He says that quilt is his friend. It was made with her hands and he keeps it close. He has also used her wheelchair when we had to move him. Cherryl said Grandma completely understood and told her she loved her when she left.

The goal in my eyes is for Coleman to know that it was Grandma's time but not his. She was nearly 93 and he's 11 and she wanted him to get well.

This morning, I have faxed a two page letter to our primary care physician who is back in the office today and explained what has been going on during the last week and hopefully will completely sell him on treating Coleman from home and doing the appropriate tests to check for strep.

It is not confirmed yet, but hopefully by noon we'll find out that the doctor in Maryland still has some of Coleman's blood draw that we could use for testing.

Trying to stay balanced through it all.

  1. Just a brief word of condolence for the loss of your grandmother. She sounds like a wonderful person; a fun person to have known, with many talents.
