After going over Coleman's bioenergetic screening results, we realized that it's potentially not just two things we are dealing with but possibly/probably more. If you look at how specifically this test breaks down bacteria and body stressors, you could count many. It's clear Coleman's body has been harboring lots of things. Someone explained to me today that their mold exposure became the catastrophic event that allowed the other ailments to come to the surface. Probably more so in Coleman than Spence.
Today we opted to discontinue the Welchol (cholesterol binding meds) and other meds because the nurse spoke with two doctors who are clear that these meds will be a tough toxin binder that robs the cholesterol that they need right now as well. There are safer options and they don't consider these safe, especially in Coleman's current condition. We only started one naturally based detox from Nutrimedix called Burbur. When she tested for Coleman's illnesses, she also tests for which medicines work best on these illnesses. Burbur is a broader detox that she considers very safe. I agree with Sharon that using the stronger detoxes need to be under the care of a medical doctor. The hot topic in Lyme's and Bartonella is avoiding a Herxheimer effect while the toxins initially die off.
A girlfriend of a girlfriend sent me a link to a doctor in Va several weeks back. Initially, I didn't think he would be a fit...until Lyme's took almost center stage. I talked with the office today at length and so many things feel right. They use some similar testing techniques, similar labs and he has a long list of credentials. They also seem kind and understanding and Coleman could use just a teaspoon of that from the medical community right now.
The kicker is that they are booked out till April but they are going to do everything they can to move us up. Sharon also spoke to them from a nurse's perspective about the urgency of Coleman's situation. I am also sending her test results to their office today.
I have watched Coleman so closely today and I have to say that I think he is ever so slightly better. I look for the smallest clues like the fact that I have been able to touch him so much more today. I was able to wipe his back and hands today without him going into orbit and right now I'm on the couch with him and he's pushing his toes into my leg and that would normally really hurt him. He has also laughed at the TV some today and seems to have more clarity, not to mention that off the WelChol he actually ate a decent amount today.
It's odd at night because his legs and arms will get restless and he'll tell me they are moving on their own and it zaps him of any energy he might have. Just recently he has a hard time going to sleep and tends to wake up a handful of times hurting.
I asked Coleman to pray last night that we would make the right choice of doctors. Jeff and I were talking last night - I was having a tough time and he said, noboby said being a parent was going to be easy. I think this situation has taught us not to take anything for granted as parents even a day when your kids are being crazy.
I also just got a call from a psychiatrist who took the time to listen and she clearly said that this is not a psychiatric issue at all, but a boy who is very medically sick and needs to have the illness treated. We agreed that the only reason he'll need a psychiatrist is to deal with the things medical doctors have put him through when he gets well...and yes, I did say when he gets well because we are still trusting God for the victory.

Hi Melanie,
ReplyDeleteMy name is Martin Thompson and I work with Clay Asbury and Kevin Pillsbury. We have found black mold in our house and I'm very interested in having our three boys (6, 9, 13) checked out by someone. I was wondering if you might have some suggestions.
I'm so sorry to read and hear all that you are going through. We're praying for you.

Mel: Still praying daily for your family. I'm SO glad you're making progress with the doctors! Love, L
ReplyDeleteMel and Jeff,
ReplyDeleteWe aren't the best bloggers but we want you to know that we pray for you all daily. God is definitely drawing our family closer together right now, and whenever we pray, we always remember Coleman and Spencer as well as you and Jeff. And, on Wednesday nights, you all are prayed and spoken of often in both the middle school guys and girls studies.
Love you all,
The Milbys
Mel, have you gotten back to Dr. Koch at VCU (infectious disease) about treatment for Lyme disease? Please consider it; he is great.
ReplyDeleteJeff and Mel,
ReplyDeleteGwen called us last night to tell us what you have been going through. I am so terribly sorry that you are being tested in this way. I am praying for you all - praying for God to continue to give you and Jeff strength to carry your babies along this horrific journey - praying for God to hold Coleman and Spencer in the palm of his healing hands - and praying that both Coleman and Spencer will be better soon. Please know we're thinking about, and praying for you constantly. God will never abandon you. "He will raise you up on eagle's wings...make you to shine like the sun, and hold you in the palm of his hand". Hang in there guys - you are all so loved! Steve & Sarah
