Cousin Pam

In the middle of our fight, we have stopped several times to remember my cousin Pam, the inventor and distributor of the "half-hug"...you know the polite one you give family when you haven't seen them in a while. The truth about Pam is that she does nothing half-way. She has been the most committed mother I have ever known following her daughter Kaity all over the country for her dance competitions and praying for her son Zack around the world as he was assigned duty in Iraq. Pam is a whiz with crafts and created these wonderful bees-wax candles that put her on the map and had QVC knocking at her door. She declined to keep her sanity and her family intact. She tears up at the drop of a hat because she loves all the way down deep and she is crazy as a loon (must run in the family). She has been the glue that holds her family together and now its their turn to hold her together.

Today she is at UVA in Charlottesville getting a stint in her colon for her battle with stage 4 colon cancer. She has an aggressive and tough road ahead of her but she's a fighter. As sick as she has been, she sent a card to us to let us know she was thinking about us.

So as I sit here on the couch keeping watch over my son, her daughter is probably standing in a hospital hall keeping watch over her mother. We're praying for you Pam and I've told Coleman he has to keep fighting just like you because there are a lot more family reunion meals to be consumed!

  1. I've been following your blog ever since you gave me the link. I can't imagine having to watch your own child suffer...but it's probably a lot like having to watch your own mother suffer. You all are so special to us, Mom asks about and prays for the boys every day. It's hard to understand God's Plan sometimes, but I figure He knows what He's doing. Mom and Coleman have battles ahead that neither of them should have to fight. But we will fight, because there's no other choice. You all are in our thoughts and prayers. Thanks for the shout-out to Mom!

    Love to all,
    Kaity
