Ready for the Week

Today has been another good day. Coleman continued to eat well and today we discussed physical therapy and our next steps.

Although the complete want to isn't quite there yet, we talked about the need to exercise the muscles. He did some of the simple exercises one of the docs showed us in the hospital - one to just push his knees down in the bed to flex the quads, which are the first to go to jelly, then lifting his feet off the bed one at a time. He also used my workout band in his hands and flexed his legs in it. To us, that was a great step forward and one that also begins to open the door in his mind to walking again.

This was a big workout for him and in the end we let him know how proud we were of him to be turning the corner enough to start this. I think physical therapy in home is starting soon and we want him to be ready and open to the idea.

Spen also brought him down one of his transformers today and it's good to see his mind and hands work furiously.

One of our friends and Scotland mission trip buddies just got back from Scotland last night returning from a prep trip for this year's team. She brought us two great flags of Scotland and two enormous pieces of paper signed by our Scottish friends. I have the flags on display in the den and hopefully they will inspire Coleman.

I'm not sure what this week will hold in blood test results, doc calls, etc. and I confess that Sunday night sometimes gives me that pre-exam feeling in my gut, but we talked today about how God has stepped us this far and we are going to be bold and keep walking...well soon enough, we'll be walking!

Here's one of my favorite pictures of Coleman in Scotland last year, getting nailed by snowballs on the famous Royal Dornoch golf course..FORE! Here's a shout out to this year's team preparing to leave, we'll miss being with you and Godspeed!
