For some reason each day starts with Coleman eating bread and butter because his stomach is queezy in the AM. I do believe he set the eating record today for this illness. His appetite is returning with vigor and he's got some weight to put back on.
Although his menu choices aren't our norm, I'm happy for every calorie that he can put in. He is also able to take nutritional supplements again - multi vitamins and fish oil, the natural anti-inflammatory. We have also added some herbal remedies for fungus and bacteria.
Coleman's body is working hard to combat and I think today has been perhaps his best day yet. He is watching Nick's Kids Choice Awards and I'm noticing how much he is holding his head up in bed and turning all the way around to talk to me.
A few minutes ago I read some inspiration in the Costco magazine (who knew?) in an interview with Michael J. Fox who battles Parkinson's Disease. He said,
Optimism doesn't mean you get to skip the bad stuff. If you're truly optomisitc or have a capacity to hope, it should allow you to look at what's bad and really get its measure, and say, What is the extent of this? It's the courage to look at something and say, However bad this is, it isn't bad infinitely."
We're not sure what lasting effects this string of illnesses will have on Coleman or even on Spen, but we are sure there is a full measure to learn from and to seek God through.

Mel,
ReplyDeleteWhat is Coleman's favorite food these days now that he is getting his appetite back, I'd love to send over a goodie bad for him and the family if that's Ok? Let me know. You are amazing.
Love,
Carol
