That's what Spencer and I are reading for school right now. I confess to having forgotten what the story is all about. Spen and I have been talking about how Christian had a tough journey that lasted longer than it was supposed to and to top it off, he was carrying a great burden. This story seems to be right at home around these parts.
The thing that struck us today was how John Bunyan wrote the story while he was in prison. So essentially, the worst time of his life brought out the best work he ever did. We talked about how these really tough times are uniquely setting us apart to learn and share something important. That's tough for me to understand sometimes and I've been walking mother earth a lot more years than my boys. Even in light of that, I think deep inside they are beginning to understand this.
We're just pilgrims trying to make progress.
We had a good day. Coleman is getting around much better on his foot today. We walked outside and it was all I could do to keep him off the trampoline. Hopefully tomorrow he'll be able to walk like he was before and we'll catch back up. I feel like we're on a good path to healing and I'm beginning to notice subtle changes in his awareness and his understanding. We didn't get here overnight and we're not going to get out overnight.
What is it my mother always said? "You can't eat an elephant overnight." Or was it her mother? Or was it my grandmother? maybe my uncle. Whoever said it was so right, not only about this illness, but about anything worth working for in life.
