His First Step!

I have always been sure that I didn't really witness Coleman's first step when he was 11 months old and I was always silently grateful to the amazing veteran women who worked at the daycare and to my mom that watched him some during that time. His first step with me was just a bit too comfortable and when I came into the daycare one Monday announcing that Coleman had taken his first step over the weekend, the ladies smiled so sweetly...how gracious of them to leave that feeling intact for a working mom.

Today was different though, today was all mine. Coleman walked with the walker at least four different times today. One of those times, he put the walker several feet ahead of him and took his first steps alone! He's unstable because he's still walking on the sides of his feet and because his legs are still weak, but the good news is he said his legs no longer have pain, just his feet. He still can't be touched by us, but his pain is lessening.

When Spencer came home from working on his schoolwork, Coleman walked for him and he was so happy for Coleman. He kept saying, "today is the day, today is the day!" It meant so much to see that because they have been through a lot together and Spen has been on a front row seat through this which hasn't always been the best seat in the house.

I think our latest additions of supplements are making some other positive changes. I noticed today that the dizziness is better as well. The small bumps to the bed that used to make him nauseous don't seem to have the same effect anymore or at least it takes more than it did before.

Each positive thing that happens for him, seems to sort of be traded off for one of the negative things he has been through. It's like watching the scale slowly tipping.

Could he eat any more chicken fried rice? I'm not sure, because it's still a staple. Thanks to Val for the variation with beef and broccoli - I'm the only one that can handle the sauce - here's to clearing the sinuses!

Coleman moved his walker in front of me today and walked right up to me face to face and the first thing that shocked me - besides the obvious - was HE IS TALLER!

So grateful!
