My friend Mary McMillan has a great new weekly email update called Mary Mack's Minutes.
It's a fun, personal synopsis of undiscovered treasures of the Mid-Atlantic region. I haven't had the chance to tell her, but I look forward to them now and sometimes I make a mental plan to take Coleman (and Spencer) to some of these places when he is feeling better.
Isn't it true how we're never thirsty till the water's gone? Now that we can't do those things, I really wish we could...and hopefully soon will.
Today, Mary used a quote from Abraham Lincoln that stuck with me all day - The best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time.
That's a motto we can use around here. The days seem to come and go with a similar rhythm to the one that came before. Routine after routine and after a while you give into it and it becomes actually comforting. We're into a good rhythm and trying to hold it there.
Coleman was so proud to show Becky how he jumps on the trampoline. We talked about how jumping on the trampoline can actually help reset the brain. She had him swing some with his eyes shut to work on his inner ear challenges. Later she had him stand on the floor with his eyes closed. Today he could stand for more than 5 seconds before he lost his balance. Last week he couldn't close his eyes and stand at all.
It seems true that his body is beginning to innately heal itself. I'm looking forward to seeing his next results in a week or so.
Spen is still sketching for me once a day - I think the process alone is getting him used to the idea again. He's also got a sponge ball that he squeezes when he's watching TV - and I'm looking for some good signs. He did a fair amount more school work today.
Val, thanks for thinking of us at Mekong - chicken fried rice seems to be THE basic food group here. Thanks to you too Mom, for the schooling and the constant errand runs - couldn't do it without you!
Mondays have become much happier around here and we're looking ahead, one day at a time.

RCS High School Art teacher again -- my name is Dena Lemelin btw... I am glad to hear that Spen is drawing. Please encourage it further. Also, if he feels confident enough in something that he's created I would LOVE to see it.
ReplyDeleteI am glad things seem to be on the up. Many prayers your way. I know every day tends to be a new one with its own new obstacles but remember all those new days give way for miracles and blessings.
