New Monday

Tonight Coleman and I are talking about what we're thankful for. We just agreed it is the fact that this is one of those new Mondays, the ones that no longer count how many weeks he has been off his feet.

Today he was on his feet, for hours not minutes. He stood to play one of his Wii games and was so intent on beating the levels that he stayed on his feet. He also showed his physical therapist how he could run in place with the Wii. She's happy with his progress and is helping create challenges for him that encourage him to do things and go to new areas that he may not feel ready for.

He and I had a good talk last night about what he feels and doesn't frequently talk about. I am again amazed about how clearly he can describe his battles to me and it reminds me what his life has been reduced to and how that's a battle in itself. We feel like its our job to highlight all the little accomplishments and when we do, we usually get a smile from him. I live for those every day and it's funny, when I have my mind weighed with something, he can tell and he'll ask me to smile for him. Sometimes when you paint one on, it becomes real.

Spen worked with my mom today and she said he had marked improvement in his attention span and they added some Science to the mix. He's on a good path and I appreciate the art tip from the school art teacher today. I think we'll pull out some big paper and let him try some large brush strokes with a big paintbrush.

A thank you to Darlene for the world's heaviest pan of lasagna...I didn't know whether to eat it or climb it! It was awesome, we thank you and the neighbors thank you - tomorrow I'm going to eat a piece of pie while I ride the exercise bike. Think that might work?

It's lights out after a Monday of being on our feet! Thanks for caring enough to check on us.
