A Son's Blessing

Today I read about Isaac and how his youngest twin son stumped him...twice. Even so, his father loved him. Once the youngest came close to his father, deceptively dressed in his older brother's clothes, the father was duped when he caught the familiar scent of the outdoors on his son's clothes. I related very much to what he said to his son:

Ahhh, the smell of my son
is like the smell of the open country
blessed by God.

May God give you of Heaven's dew
and earth's bounty of grain and wine.

I love the smell of my boys when they come in from the outdoors - kind of like a fresh field with a bit of boy sweat and fresh air mixed in. It's a tonic that reminds me how much they love the outdoors and just how restless boys are. It's hard to keep Spence inside these days. He walks along the creek, deep in "pretend" mode and Coleman seems to feel better when he gets a bit of sunshine.

The rain kept us in most of today and tends to make Coleman more tired and sluggish so we kept it low key today and went through the playroom digging up goods for the yard sale. May I say that Spencer Cox will part with NOTHING! That's OK by me because he smells like the great outdoors.
